James Thompson Obituary

James William Thompson, age 94, of Reedsburg, passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at Milestone Senior Living in Hillsboro.  He was born on August 26, 1929, in Hillsboro, WI, the son of George F. and Mildred (Sebranek) Thompson.  Jim proudly served his country in the US Air Force.  He enlisted on December 9, 1950, soon became an Officer, a Pilot and an Aeronautical Engineer.  He retired from the Air Force on December 31, 1970.  Jim continued to fly with family and friends for several years.

On July 19, 1968, Jim was united in marriage to Sybil G. Crowley in Edmonds, WA.  He and Sybil lived the life that everyone should live.  They enjoyed many vacations together and had a lot of fun with their family and friends.

After retiring from the Air Force, Jim became the Clerk and Treasurer of the City of Reedsburg for about five years.  He worked for the Federal Property Program for the State of Wisconsin and later became the Equipment Manager for Badger Ordinance in rural Baraboo until its closing.  Jim was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Reedsburg.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sybil; parents; daughter, Keri Ellett; brother, Charlie Thompson; sons-in-law, Trail Wyman and Mike Carter.

Jim is survived by his children, Kirbi (Robert) Hintz of Texas, Jill Carter of Arizona, Kathy Johnson (Charlie Huffstutler) of Reedsburg, Patti Wyman of Wonewoc, Douglas Thompson of Wonewoc; 7 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life for James and Sybil Thompson will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at the Fusch Center in Reedsburg with Deacon Thomas Hale officiating. A memorial gathering will be held from 11:00 AM until the time of the service at the Fusch Center.  Appetizers will be served.  Burial with Military Honors will follow the service in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Hillsboro.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Reedsburg Area Medical Center Foundation.
