Susan K (Slaney) Hulberg, age 62 of Reedsburg, passed away peacefully on Feb 19th with family by her side. She was born in Richland Center August 9th, 1963. Sue Graduated from Sauk Prairie High School in 1981.
Sue was a Union Steward representing the people at the Flambeau Plastics for many years and had just recently retired from her maintenance position after 39 years in January of 2025.
Sue will be remembered for her gentle heart, adventurous spirit, and the deep love she carried for her family and friends. She had a special way of making people feel seen, valued, and cared for. Her compassion wasn’t reserved just for those closest to her she offered friendship, kindness and tenderness wherever she could. Sue had an unmistakable soft spot for animals of every kind, and this was very well known early in her life. As a small child she would find field mice and try to convince our mother to let them come inside. So, to say her two dogs, Amelia and Conor, her babies, were very loved is such an understatement. Sue’s eyes sparkled and danced when she spoke of them.
A true water baby at heart, she was happiest near the water. Sue loved to travel with her favorite place being Panama City Beach which she visited several times a year. She loved the beach, going on fishing trips, and any chance to be by the lake or ocean filled her with joy. The sound of waves, the feel of the breeze, and the calm of the water were places where her spirit seemed to shine the brightest.
She also loved sharing laughter and good times — bowling nights, playing pool, camping and gathering with friends that created memories that will be cherished by all who were lucky enough to be part of them. Her warmth and easy smile made every gathering brighter. Sue was a great cook and loved to cook for everyone. She took pride in her cooking and would always bring her favorite dishes to every family event. Her love of cooking carried over to vacations as she would do all the cooking planning her menu weeks ahead of time.
Above all, she loved her husband, family, friends and pups fiercely. They were her greatest pride and joy. She was the best sister and the love she gave so freely will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched. Her legacy is one of compassion, loyalty, laughter, and a deep appreciation for life’s simple pleasures. She will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.
Sue is survived by her husband Jim Hulberg of Reedsburg, Jim’s two children Cody (Stephanie) Hulberg of Reedsburg and his daughter Tiffany Hulberg of Milwaukee and their children. Her mother Marilyn Meeker of Hub City, sisters Sandi (Al) Matteson of Richland Center, Cindy Feltman of Ironton and Sally (Scott) Gald of Richland Center, and brothers Scott (Kristin) Sterba of Richland Center, Chad (Michelle) Meeker of Richland Center, her step-sister Mindy (Mike) Orburn and step brother Jimmy Meeker, both of Little Rock Arkansas, and many special family members close to her heart including Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews and many great friends.
